Identity boundary

Profile, not endorsement.

RCI links the manufacturer identity to public evidence. Inclusion does not imply independent verification of performance, commercial availability in every region, or any commercial relationship with RCI.

Integration relevance

Why this supplier matters to a robot-system decision.

Teledyne FLIR spans thermal imaging and visible industrial machine vision. Robot use depends on the exact camera model, sensor, lens, interface, firmware, GenICam feature set, SDK version, host controller, lighting and calibration—not on the FLIR name or megapixel count alone.

Desk review: 2026-08-13. This dossier maps official research routes and unresolved decision questions; it is not an exact-model recommendation.

OFFICIAL EVIDENCE ROUTES

Start with responsibility-party material.

These routes define the current desk-research surface. RCI does not treat a portfolio page as a datasheet, purchase commitment or independent result.

SELECTION SIGNALS

What changes the engineering decision.

Signals organize further evaluation; they are not rankings or proof that one supplier fits a specific robot.

Signal 1

Thermal, area-scan visible, stereo and spherical cameras solve different measurement problems and cannot share one unqualified camera comparison.

Signal 2

The model documentation binds features to a named firmware version, showing why firmware and SDK must be retained with captured data.

Signal 3

GigE Vision and USB3 Vision shift different bandwidth, cable, host-controller, timing and packet-loss responsibilities into the robot compute stack.

PROCUREMENT QUESTIONS

Questions to resolve before comparison or purchase.

A useful quotation should identify the configuration and answer these boundaries in writing.

  1. What exact model, monochrome/color variant, sensor, shutter, lens mount, interface, housing, connector and hardware revision are quoted?
  2. Which resolution, frame rate, exposure, gain, dynamic-range or thermal-accuracy values apply under what ROI, pixel format, temperature and calibration conditions?
  3. Where are trigger and timestamps generated, and what PTP, GPIO, synchronization, latency and clock-accuracy limits apply?
  4. Which camera firmware, Spinnaker/GenTL release, driver, operating system, host controller and redistribution license are qualified?
  5. What calibration, PCN, firmware maintenance, lifecycle, regional certification, warranty and replacement route applies to the exact unit?
CURRENT EVIDENCE BOUNDARIES

What this dossier does not prove.

These limits prevent company-level research from being mistaken for product validation.

A standards-compatible interface does not prove lossless streaming, deterministic triggering or support in a particular ROS or robot compute graph.

A camera-family page does not establish performance for a specific lens, target, illumination, motion, temperature or calibration state.

RCI has not captured a Teledyne FLIR dataset, audited a calibration artifact or benchmarked camera timing and image quality.

EVIDENCE DEPTH

What the current RCI record set actually supports.

CATEGORY-SPECIFIC REVIEW

Questions RCI applies before comparison.

These checks define the evidence work still required; they are not claims about this manufacturer.

B

Perception & Sensing

  • Bind range and accuracy to target, light and reflectivity
  • Preserve calibration, synchronization and filtering conditions
  • Pin firmware, SDK and host-platform support
  • Separate sensor output from downstream perception claims
